STEP ONE:
BROWSE PRODUCTS
ADD THE ITEMS YOU WOULD CONSIDER BUYING TO YOUR SHOPPING LIST

Many members create a separate list for each store. We recommend this as you are getting started. Click on the Walgreens logo. It will display all products currently indexed. You'll be searching products which are cross-checked with our huge database of coupons at all listed local stores. By default, they will display in order: HIGHEST SAVINGS to LOWEST SAVINGS - but you can change that order by clicking the linked column headers.

Retail price - What you would pay at the store with no sale or coupon - which, of course, an enlightened shopper would only do under dire circumstances! When the advertised special contains no retail price, we use a national average. It's possible you may see a different retail price at the store.

Sale Price - What you would pay with no coupon - just taking advantage of the sale alone - which may or may not be great - look at the percent savings to determine this.

Final Price - If a coupon is available this will be even lower than the sale price. Woo-Hoo! Keep in mind that we are always looking at the per unit price. Sometimes a coupon or sale may require multiple purchases of a product. If there are multiple coupons available, final prices are calculated by taking the sale price and then subtracting the highest value manufacturer coupon plus any store coupon or incentive available.

Smileys - Each week, we hand pick certain items to receive the coveted Angel Smiley! These are great deals that our staff would put on their lists.

Amount & Percent Saved - This is a fun column! We couldn't believe it at first... you can actually get products at 70%...80%...90%...100% OFF!!

Coupon Colors

Blue colored coupons are printable.

Green colored coupons are stackable. This means you can use them in addition to your manufacturer coupons.  They are usually store coupons, rebates or store rewards programs.

Red colored coupons are coupons that will expire before the end of the sale.  If you plan to use a red coupon, make sure you go to the store before it expires.

Coupon codes and abbreviations

RP = RedPlum Sunday coupon insert
SS = SmartSource Sunday coupon insert
P&G = Procter & Gamble coupon insert
GM = General Mills
All You =  Magazine available @ WalMart for around $2.34 & by subscription
Store Coupon = Almost always in the store's weekly ad
Store Rebate = You may need to grab a rebate catalog @ store
B1G1F = Buy 1 Get 1 Free, B2G2F = Buy 2 Get 2 Free, etc...

Possible Catalina = added store incentive that you may be able to receive if you purchase the correct variety and number of products specified. This is not calculated into the final prices. When you see one listed click on the link and it will tell you about the incentive.

Possible Mail in Rebate = special incentive you may receive if you mail in the correct information after purchasing the correct variety and number of products. This is not calculated into the final prices. When you see one listed click on the link and it will take you to the information about the rebate.

An example:.50 on 2 (SS 1/14) means a .50 coupon when you purchase 2 of that item. You'll find this coupon in the SmartSource insert in your Sunday paper, January 14th. (Look on the front page of the coupon inserts to learn which coupon distributor published it.)

Getting coupons

If you want the most coupons, we recommend a MAJOR CITY newspaper. A smaller newspaper will have about 30% of what the larger newspapers do. You may use up to $20 in coupons for each insert you receive - so a small investment is always worth it. You can either subscribe - or be in the habit of picking up copies at your local newsstand - though you should always verify the newsstand copies include the coupons before you purchase them.

Some cities deliver coupons for free to each house. If you are not currently receiving them and you think you should, contact your local publisher.

When you really want to turn on the gas, you might decide to have multiple copies of the newspaper delivered.

Ask around and find out which of your friends, co-workers, or neighbors don't use their coupons. Ask them to save them for you! One member recently got 5 copies of a Sunday insert that had a $7 offer on diapers in each one! That's GOLD!!

Online coupons - Go ahead and click the link! You'll open up a new window where you can print a money saving coupon. Although you can get this coupon without subscribing to a paper, you may have to create a login to access them. You can usually print two copies of each coupon for each computer you have access to. Many times, the fastest way to get your second coupon is to click your back button a few times after you've successfully printed coupon number one.

If you have a problem printing the coupon,
we recommend trying a different browser. Firefox seems to have the highest success with most printable coupons. While there are hundreds of different websites available with Internet coupons, we may be able to help you through our helpdesk with some ideas. First, please look for any help on the coupon's site. Second, please look through our HelpDesk knowledgebase for some helpful tips. Third, use our live chat or send us a HelpDesk ticket so we can assist you if these first suggestions did not work.

I don't have any coupons yet! - Don't fret. Many veteran angels started in your position. You'll start building them up soon enough on top of the printed coupons you have access to. In the meantime, just look at the sale price and do a little math in your head. You'll still likely do very well if you focus on only buying items that have a GREAT sale and buy as much as you can (ideally 12 weeks worth or more).

Smartsource.com (pictured) and Coupons.com are two popular providers of the hundreds of places we gather Internet coupons from. You need to make sure you have installed their coupon printing plugin for your browser. Most SavingsAngel members will have both Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers installed - because if one browser won't print a coupon, the other one will usually work. Other browser options are Google Chrome, Opera, and Apple Safari. More help provided at our Getting Started Guide.

Search Coupons

You'll see this link at the top of most pages. It takes you to a browse coupons screen - where you can search our huge database of coupons from all the cities that SavingsAngel covers. This would be helpful if you know that you recall seeing a particular coupon and need to know where it is. If you want a certain product - and you are not going to buy it at an indexed store, you could use this database to find the coupon to match. Our database includes printed and Internet coupons. This search engine will tell you which coupon insert it was in and the date it was published. If the coupon is an Internet coupon, you will get the link to access it.

Browse and add coupons just like you did when adding products to your list.

Wal*Mart Coupon Policy

Wal-Mart does not run sales on groceries. They claim that their everyday low price is better than their competitor's best sales. Ha! You will be shocked.

Here's how you can win BIG TIME by using your SavingsAngel membership with Wal-Mart:
Wal-Mart matches advertised prices from their competitors. They also accept Internet coupons. I recommend printing out these two sheets and bringing them with you if you plan on going to Wal-Mart for some price matching and redeeming of Internet coupons:

BTW - If they ever pull that "one coupon per purchase" business, you get to educate the cashier that it means per purchase of one ITEM - not a TRANSACTION of multiple items. You can absolutely use multiple coupons so long as each coupon has an item associated with it. Bottom line: the computers will usually work all this out - so if it scans okay, you got it!

Wal-Mart price matching can be a convenient way of making all your purchases at one location. Just bring the competitor's ad with you. It needs to have a listed sale PRICE (not just B1G1F or 20% off). They also will not match things like Store Rebates, Catalinas, or Extra Care Bucks. As you get to know what is and what is not covered, it's pretty easy to put together a list of items that will work!

What does this mean?
You can simply put together a list of products from any local store on SavingsAngel. Bring your SavingsAngel list and all coupons to your local Wal-Mart - and start getting your city's lowest price on EVERYTHING you buy @ Wal-Mart! Once you do this a few times, it will get easier and easier. Get to know which competitor's ads are kept at the Wal-Mart registers. They will need to see the ad to give you the advertised price.
